That’s right. It seems like Cupid's arrow isn't always hitting the mark, especially in Montana where an unexpected trend has emerged - a surge in divorce filings around the time of Valentine's Day.

Love Lost in the Season of Love

The days surrounding Valentine's Day witness a lot of divorces, and it's not your imagination. Experts say that the days around Valentine’s Day do see the highest spike in divorce rates. What was supposed to be a time of romance and celebration seems to have taken a sharp turn towards heartbreak for many couples in Montana.

Unveiling the Why Behind the What

The reasons behind the increase in divorce in the days around Valentine’s Day aren’t all that complicated. Valentine’s Day is when people stop and think about their relationship. As the sparks of romance fade, some find themselves realizing that they just can’t stand the thought of another Valentine's Day with a partner who no longer lights a spark in their heart which is what causes them to part ways.

The People Behind the Valentine's Day Divorce Trend

Kelly Chang Rickert, a seasoned divorce lawyer has some feelings about the people who are filing for divorce around Valentine’s Day. She says that they are the 'delayed New Year's resoluters,' who decide to embrace singlehood a tad bit late, and the 'waiting to exhale' group, who file for divorce triggered by their partner's actions on Valentine's Day, pushing them towards a final decision.
