Montana Land Board Approves $1.7M for Public School Funding

Montana’s public schools are set to receive a major funding boost after the Montana Land Board approved roughly $1.7 million in revenue during its latest meeting. Commissioner of Securities and Insurance James Brown, who serves on the Land Board, praised the approval and emphasized the results of careful, responsible land management. “The five members of the Land Board…have once again demonstrated how responsible stewardship of Montana’s trust lands delivers real results for our schools,” he said.

Where the Money’s Coming From: A Diverse Mix of Land Revenues

This month’s revenue comes from a variety of land use activities. The largest portion,$580,000, came from communization agreements, followed by timber sales, cabin leases, oil and gas leases, and easements. These varied sources show how broad and strategic land management helps support critical education funding.
