Montana has always been a popular destination for family road trips, but seeing this video from 1947 is the BEST. (We enjoyed the "hiking in dresses" look.)

Glacier was designated a National Park in 1910.

You'll see Glacier Park Hotel, an awkwardly phrased piece on the Blackfeet Indians (complete with tee-pees), the Going to the Sun Highway, the Prince of Wales Hotel (as they describe the proximity to Canada), and Iceberg Lake.

These days you've got Glacier National Park webcams all over. You don't even have to visit in person. One click and you can see what's happening in real time, anytime you want.

There are very few things longtime Montana people (including myself) enjoy more than seeing how this state marketed itself 'back in the day'. Can you imagine the producers of such a video witnessing how busy Glacier National Park has become today?

At the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850, there were about 80 glaciers in what would eventually become Glacier National Park.

Based on aerial imagery from 2015 there were 26 named glaciers that met the size criteria of 0.1 km², nine fewer than in 1966.

Of the 26 remaining in 2015, some may now already be too small to be considered glaciers.

In addition to the roughly two dozen named glaciers that are monitored by the U.S. Geological Survey, the park also hosts several unnamed glaciers, about a dozen rock glaciers, and many snow fields.
