I can't even believe I am writing about this. It just sounds blasphemous. Butte is NOT Montana's most Irish city? According to ancestry data, this is what Central Montana town actually is Montana's most Irish city.

If you were to look at culture and pride and St. Patrick's day alone- Butte is not only the most Irish town in Montana...it's one of the most Irish towns in all of America. But according to an Irish marketing firm- Harlowton, Montana is actually the most Irish town in Montana, at least according to a press release I received from Baldwin Digital.

Someone could have fun doing a fact check on this one, but here's part of what their press release says: "Irish marketing experts Baldwin Digital analyzed the latest 2023 Census data on the ancestry of residents in each US state, comparing the total statewide populations with the number of people of Irish descent. They were then ranked from top to bottom to reveal the states with the highest percentage of Irish heritage. The cities with the highest percentage of Irish ancestry were also included for each top-ranking state by analyzing all cities with over 1,000 residents statewide."

Here's what they specifically claimed about Montana: "Montana ranks ninth overall. Of the 1,105,072 people living in the state, 147,931 have Irish heritage, around 13.39% of the state-wide population. Harlowton is the state’s most Irish city, with 27.51% of inhabitants having Irish roots."

Speaking of Butte, Tommy O had a great writeup about the M&M sign being restored in Uptown Butte. Click here for that great story with photos and more.
