The title alone is pretty gruesome.

I used to worry that those images would sear themselves into my sub-conscious forever and I'd be scarred irreparably.

If you're around 40, there is a good chance you saw this movie in the 80's and it scared you shitless. I think the original still holds up. I think if my seven year old watched the original, she wouldn't notice the cheesiness of the "peeling off the face" scene...
