I've had some of the best times in small towns around Montana. The vibe of these tiny communities can't be artificially created.

You hear this a lot, unless you're from there, you don't get it. One of my least favorite places in Montana is Glendive. Now I know that will make some people mad and I really don't know why but I make it a point to never stop there if I head that direction...

Right now, a road trip from Billings to Whitefish will cost about $50 more in fuel than last year. If it hits $5 a gallon, the same trip will cost $220 for regular gas. Ouch.

For me, which road I take depends on what I think my velocity might be on that particular trip.

During my drive back from Indiana to Montana, I took the route that goes through South Dakota. If you've never made the drive between Billings and Sioux Falls, there are some interesting sites to visit.
