Supertramp

British prog rockers, formed in 1970, hit it big with an LP about America at the end of the decade. But there's more to their story.

Davies was the earthier, more grounded and, yes, occasionally grumpier of Supertramp's two main songwriters.

Davies wrote and sang many of the band's most famous hits, including "Bloody Well Right, "Crime of the Century" and "Goodbye Stranger."

On paper, this era looked like a recipe for disaster.

This marked a recommitment to ambitions that had started slipping away from the band in the wake of their greatest commercial success.
