As the leaves fall and mornings get brisk, Montana’s scenic routes prepare for winter’s embrace. The Beartooth Highway is about to take a seasonal break.
Snowfall is expected to be heaviest south of Billings. Red Lodge could get up to 12"and travel to Wyoming could be hazardous. A Winter Storm Watch begins at 12 AM Wednesday and runs through Friday at 5 PM.
The Montana Department of Transportation will reassess the conditions over the weekend (the pass will likely reopen by Monday). Beartooth Highway typically closes for the season in mid-October.
