1997: These 5 Rock Songs Topped the Charts

Ah nostalgia. The times, they were different back then. The Grunge scene, both extremely popular and some would argue innovative, had been pushed back underground by ’97. Heavily marketed Pop stars and boy bands were starting to get heavy rotations on radio stations and MTV, seemingly slugging it out with the Ska-influenced Rock bands at the time. It’s here that we begin our journey. These five songs topped the Rock charts my senior year in high school:

2  Fly - Sugar Ray
3  The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
4  Walkin' On the Sun - Smashmouth
5  Push - Matchbox 20

Yup, those were the top songs for the Rock charts. If you attended prom in ’97 you probably heard all of these songs throughout the night, interspersed with the latest Puff Daddy or Garth Brooks track.
