Dave Davies Announces New Album, Releases Song and Plans U.S. Tour
We're getting new music from the Davies family – but its not a Kinks reunion. Instead, band co-founder Dave Davies has collaborated with his son Russ on the upcoming Open Road. The elder Davies has also announced a month-long U.S. tour to follow the album's March 31 release. You can see a full list of dates and cities below.
Dave Davies wrote and produced Open Road with Russ during sessions that saw the pair "fusing their mutual experience into a deeply honest and inspiring LP" despite "coming from different eras and backgrounds," according to a press release announcing the project. The advance single, which you can listen to below, is called "Path Is Long."
While his father is best known as guitarist and songwriter with the Kinks, Russ Davies has carved out his own career in the EDM scene, producing more than 15 albums and touring under the alter-ego titles of Abakus and Cinnamon Chasers. His most recent record with his dad was 2010's more experimental The Aschere Project.
"We had been talking about making another album together for a few years and the timing seemed right," Dave Davies tells Consequence of Sound. "This time we wanted to make a more song-oriented piece of work with catchy hooks and emotional melodies, so we decided on a more rocky-poppy approach more in the mainstream."
In other Davies family news, former Kinks bandmate and brother Ray's new album, Americana, comes out April 21.
