Dinosaurs? Bozeman’s Museum of the Rockies is Tops in the Country

My Mother In Law is in town for a bit and my wife and I wanted to give her the whole "Bozeman" experience.

We did the whole "stroll" downtown and had dinner at one of the many fantastic restaurants located on Main.  Side note, every time I go downtown, I end up loving it more.  From the people watching, to the unique stores, it's just one of my favorite places.

We cheered on the Bobcats at the Homecoming game, visited one of the hot springs, and are going to check out the Museum of the Rockies.

I'll be honest, this will be my first time going to the Museum and I'm looking forward to it. Did you know that the Museum has the largest collection of dinosaur remains in the United States? This is completely appropriate since it is National Fossil Day, today.

However, dinosaurs aren't the only thing you can check out, they have several different exhibits that celebrate the history of Montana and the region.  From Yellowstone to a planetarium, to an actual "living history farm" where you can see firsthand what it was like to live in the area back in the 1800s. (the living history farm is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.)

The Museum was founded back in 1957 and was originally just associated with Montana State University, but now has a partnership with the Smithsonian Institute. Having been to a couple of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington D.C., I know we'll be in for a real treat.

The Museum of the Rockies is open every day with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day, plus two additional days this month to be announced. The hours are from 9 am to 5 pm.  You can check out the Museum of the Rockies website, by clicking here.
