Happy STAR WARS DAY! May the 4th be with you. Today is the un-official Star Wars holiday. A day when everyone gathers their lightsabers and argues what Star Wars movie was the greatest. (Note: if you pick anything outside of the original trilogy, we can't be friends). I mean c'mon, the majority of fans agree that the prequels were complete garbage. "New Hope" and "Empire," those are the ones to debate.... Regardless, it is a day when everyone celebrates one of the greatest combinations of science fiction, hero epics, drama, and fantasy.

Star Wars Day is an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4 to celebrate George LucasStar Wars media franchise. Observance of the day spread quickly through media and grassroots celebrations since the franchise began in 1977.

The date originated from the pun "May the Fourth be with you", a variant of the popular Star Wars catchphrase "May the Force be with you". Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.

Even though Star Wars is a worldwide phenomena. It holds special place in the hearts of many Missoulians. In fact, to celebrate the release of "The Force Awakens" back in 2015. A University of Montana volunteer, named Barb Ballas, actually climbed up in the historic clock tower and played the opening theme to the Star Wars movies.
