Warning: if you stop by Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, there is a very strong chance you will come home with Baby Girl, our featured Wet Nose Wednesday pet.

Baby Girl is a seven-year-old Plott Hound mix. What's a Plott Hound, you ask? We weren't sure either. According to the American Kennel Club, the Plott Hound is a descendant of the German "Hanover Hound".

The breed was introduced to the United States by a German immigrant named Johannes Plott, who came to North Carolina in 1750. This breed is a fantastic hunting companion, and the Plott Hound was designated as the North Carolina state dog in 1989.

Back to Baby Girl.

Many times, when you adopt a dog at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, you won't get many details regarding the dog's history, especially if it was a stray; their backstory is simply unknown. However, Baby Girl came with a long letter about her preferences.

She was surrendered by a loving owner who, due to insurmountable circumstances, was unable to keep her. Tears were shed, and her former family wants nothing more than for this sweet dog to find a caring new home.

Baby Girl does great with other dogs, cats, and kids.

She loves car rides, too, said Lindsay Dillon, Volunteer Coordinator at YVAS. I brought my 8-year-old kid to work today, and Baby Girl seemed to prefer her company more than the adults in the room.

A gentle, medium-sized dog (the shelter has her weight at 36.4 lbs), she would do great in a home without too much excitement. Baby Girl loves slow-ish walks, treats, and ample time on the couch. Baby Girl is missing one eye, but that doesn't seem to slow her down at all.
