7 Fun Things for Dad to Do This Weekend Around Billings

Father’s Day weekend is upon us, and if you’re looking for a way to treat Dad that doesn’t involve another tie or “World’s Best Dad” mug, we’ve rounded up six solid options in the Billings area that’ll make his weekend a winner.

I'm knee deep in home renovation projects, so my Father's Day weekend will probably involve a shovel and wheelbarrow or a paintbrush. Not exactly my idea of fun, but work comes before play, right? However, if I get some time to get away with my family, all of the following options sound great.

1. Pig Races at Bearcreek Downs
The Red Lodge area will be hopping this weekend, with the Red Lodge Music Festival highlighting events in town. Nearby are the world-famous Pig Races at the Bearcreek Saloon. Our Red Lodge visits typically end with an awesome margarita at Foster and Logan's.

2. Brews and Blistered Earth at Thirsty Street Taproom

Billings has no shortage of local beer, and Thirsty Street on 1st Ave is throwing down with a BBQ and live music event on Saturday. Bring Dad for a cold pint and rock and roll. Blistered Earth - the Ultimate Metallica Tribute Band - will take the stage at 9 PM.

3. Fishing on the Stillwater or Bighorn

Sometimes, Dad just wants some peace with a line in the water. Hit the river early and let him enjoy a relaxing day in one of Montana’s most scenic spots. Bonus points if you bring the cooler stocked with his favorites, and don’t out-fish him.

With warmer temps, water levels are likely rising... and while the fishing might not be ideal, the views will more than compensate.

4. Father's Day Brunch at The Windmill

Yes, brunch can be manly—especially when it includes a 32 oz Tomahawk Ribeye special or 24 oz of snow crab clusters. Wash it down with a Bloody Mary the size of a soup bowl, and Dad will be full, fat, and happy. Reservations recommended.

If Dad’s a dirt-track kind of guy, Big Sky Speedway north of town is the place to be. Enjoy two nights of the Mountain States MOD tour, with roaring engines, and a snack shack with nachos, hot dogs, and other tasty trackside favorites.
