Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter is Billlings is slowing adjusting to its new temporary facility at 6400 S. Frontage Road (inside a warehouse space adjacent to Lionheart Cannabis dispensary). They'll be at this location for the foreseeable future, according to YVAS Human Outreach Coordinator Derek Wulf.

Wulf updated us on what's new at YVAS when he stopped by today with an absolutely adorable little pup for our weekly Wet Nose Wednesday segment. Each week, we feature an adoptable pet from the shelter, and this week's cutie is irresistible.

Meet Miko, a 6-month-old Chihuahua mix.

Miko arrived at the shelter several days ago as a stray. Like all strays, she was held for at least 72 hours, giving her former owner(s) a chance to recover their pet. After that, all strays at YVAS are examined by a vet, spayed or neutered (if needed), and microchipped. If they don't show aggression issues, they become available for adoption.

Miko is very cute and active. I had a difficult time getting photos that weren't blurry; she loves to play and explore, and sitting still to pose wasn't on her agenda today. Puppies are busybodies, and Miko is no exception. We suspect she'll make a fine snuggle buddy when she's ready for a break.

Looking for a new kitten or an adult cat?

We typically feature dogs on Wet Nose Wednesday, probably because they love car rides, and cats usually don't, but the shelter currently has a ton of adoptable felines. To help them find loving homes, YVAS is hosting a special, off-site adoption event on October 17.

"Mamma Mia! (More) Kittens Galore" will take place at Western Security Bank on King Avenue in front of Lowe's all day on Friday, October 17. During this event, you can adopt a cat for just $25, a substantial savings from the normal fee.

Thank you, Shipton's Big R, for supporting pet adoption in the Billings area.
