Bring Patience: Bozeman Pass Will Take Longer This Summer
Construction season has begun in Montana, and one extremely popular traffic corridor in the Treasure State will be impacted throughout the summer of 2025. Drivers can expect delays on Interstate 90 between Bozeman and Livingston, beginning now through fall.
Gallatin County officials shared on Facebook a post outlining what construction crews with CK May Excavating will be doing on an 11-mile section of 1-90. Highlights include:
- Replacing asphalt on shoulders, ramps, and sections of the road.
- Rehabilitating bridges and upgrade barriers
- Adding new rumble strips, signage, and guardrails
- Applying chip seal and final pavement markings
- Addressing potential rock fall hazards near Bozeman Pass

Expect delays, one-lane traffic, and temporary ramp closures.
Drivers can expect ramp closures at Exit 324 (Flynn Creek Road) and Exit 319 (Jackson Creek Road) between April 14 and 18. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with reduced speed limits and width restrictions in place.
An average of over 16,000 vehicles traverse Bozeman Pass each day, making it one of the busier sections of the Interstate highway system in Montana.
There are dozens of active road construction projects underway and/or planned for the 2025 road construction season in Montana. A great resource to stay informed is the interactive maps (like the one pictured above) on the Montana Department of Transportation website. You can search by city, county, year, cost, etc.
