Great Falls Approves New Housing Development

One of the biggest issues facing not just Montana residents but citizens across America is affordable housing.

That is why the Great Falls City Commission just voted and approved a new housing development.

New Developer Plans Manufactured Homes Neighborhood

Located at Seventh Avenue North and 42nd Street in Great Falls, this new development is planned to include 154 home sites in the near future.

While there were previous plans to develop this location, contractors withdrew due to unstable soil conditions, leading to the collapse of those plans.

However, Nine Blessings, a developer out of Missoula, plans to place manufactured homes on concrete slabs, a suitable solution for the soil conditions.

Concerns About Recent Evictions And Rising Rent

Not everyone on the city commission was behind the proposed development.

Commissioner Shannon Wilson was the only commissioner to vote against the proposal on both occasions, opposing both the rezoning of the property and its annexation to the city.

She told the Montana Free Press:

“I can’t in good conscience vote for it, because we’re putting low-income and low-moderate income residents at risk of losing everything.”

Her reasoning was the recent eviction notices that those living in the Spring Creek Mobile Park over in Flathead County received unexpectedly from the new property managers.

Shannon also cited "The Highwoods," neighborhood in Great Falls, where an out-of-state property owner more than doubled rents over the past few years.

Growth Of Housing In Great Falls

This, combined with the proposed development known as "Meadowview Village," which is hoping to add 163 single-family homes, means there is going to be lots of new housing going up in Great Falls in the near future.
