Human Trafficking In Montana Hits The Headlines

Hearing about human trafficking is never easy, and lately with the Epstein Files making headlines, it’s on a lot of people’s minds.

For a long time, it seemed like Montana was far removed from this kind of crime, but sadly, that’s not the case anymore.

The Oasis Massage Human Trafficking Case

This week, a Helena courtroom reminded us that these national issues can happen right here at home.

72-year-old Steven Kyle Miller and his wife Jinbao Yu were running an illegal massage parlor that also served as a front for human trafficking and prostitution.

It all started thanks to a tip from a TSA agent at Helena International Airport. Investigators began looking into Oasis Massage on Cedar Street, and what they uncovered was heartbreaking.

How The Investigation Uncovered The Crime

Miller was often seen with young Asian women at the airport and would speak for them, controlling their movements and activities. These women were traveling with thousands of dollars in cash, which raised red flags.

When authorities executed a search warrant at Oasis Massage, they found several women who couldn’t speak English and hidden items used for sex, including condoms and lingerie.

In court, Judge Abbott handed Miller a 10-year prison sentence, with five years to be served and a $5,000 fine. His wife’s sentence will be determined later this year.

There are two takeaways from this story. First, if you see something, say something. The TSA agent who spoke up deserves recognition for noticing something was off.

Second, it’s a strong reminder of the dedication law enforcement puts in every day to help keep our communities safe.
