Billings Man Sentenced After Woman Says Gun Was Pointed at Her Chest
A Billings man has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison after being found in possession of a firearm despite being legally prohibited from having one.
46-Month Sentence Handed Down
Isaac Clyde Martinez, 38, was sentenced to 46 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Acting U.S. Attorney Tim Racicot announced the sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.
Martinez previously pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Domestic Violence Call Led to Discovery
According to court documents, the case stems from a domestic violence call on May 24, 2025. When officers arrived, a woman identified as Jane Doe told them she and Martinez had been arguing since the night before.
Jane Doe reported that during the argument, Martinez pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her chest. After the situation de-escalated, she said Martinez placed the gun in a silver grill outside the home. Jane Doe then showed officers exactly where to find it.
Gun and Ammunition Located Outside Home
Law enforcement found the firearm where she indicated. It was identified as a black Taurus TH9 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Officers also located a pistol bag containing loose ammunition and a full box of 9mm rounds. Fingerprints recovered from the ammunition were later matched to Martinez, further tying him to the weapon.
Prior Conviction Made Possession Illegal
Martinez was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior federal conviction. In October 2021, he had already been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Montana for the same offense, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Because of that conviction, it was illegal for him to have any firearm or ammunition.

Federal Agencies Led the Investigation
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zeno Baucus. The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Billings Police Department.
