Billings Shooting Leaves Man Critical, SWAT Teams Respond

A man is in critical condition after a shooting Saturday afternoon near North 23rd Street, and Billings police spent part of Sunday searching a Monroe Street home as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to Billings Police Department Public Relations Sergeant Jeff Stovall, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 1st Avenue North and North 23rd Street at approximately 3:22 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. Officers arrived to find a 47-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

North 23rd Street Barricade Report Triggers SWAT Response

Early information suggested the alleged shooter may have barricaded himself somewhere in the area, so both the Billings Police Department SWAT Team and the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team were activated out of caution.

As officers worked the scene, investigators determined the alleged shooter had already left the area before law enforcement arrived. Police also stated that the victim and the alleged shooter were known to one another.

Search Warrant Executed at Monroe Street Residence

The investigation led officers to a residence in the 100 block of Monroe Street, where they hoped to locate the alleged shooter. He had already left by the time they got there.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the residence. The warrant was executed on Sunday, September 7, with help from both the Billings Police Department and Yellowstone County SWAT teams.

Investigation Remains Active, No Threat to Public Reported

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further details are being released right now to protect the process. Stovall did note there is no known ongoing threat to the general public connected to this incident.
