I come from a military family. My dad served in the Army, my grandfather served in the Navy, and my uncle served in the Air Force. Because of that, supporting veterans has always been personal to me.

I’ve spent the better part of my adult life working with and advocating for veterans. I’ve learned that service doesn’t always end when someone comes home. That’s why I’m glad to see AccessBillings bring this conversation to Billings again.

Billings Disability Awareness Forum Will Focus on Veterans

AccessBillings will hold its fifth Disability Awareness Forum on Friday, October 2, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center.

This year’s forum will focus on veterans, the paths they walk after military service, barriers they may face in everyday public life, and the support that can make our community stronger.

Veterans, their families and caregivers, advocates, and anyone who cares about disability access in Billings are invited to attend.

Billings Veterans and Families Will Share Real Experiences

The Billings veteran disability forum is meant to be an honest conversation about the barriers people with disabilities can face in daily life. Local support experts and people with lived disability experience will share what they know and talk about practical solutions.

The event will be moderated by Mels Smith and Jack Lillis of AccessBillings.

The lived experience panel will include Daisy Collins, Adam Chenoweth, and Bob Crandall.

Billings Veteran Support Organizations Will Join Forum Panel

A Community Changers Panel will feature Deede Baker of Dog Tag Buddies, Blake Fuhriman of Veterans Navigation Network, and Dallas Knight of Operation Juliet.

These local organizations work to support veterans and their families in different ways. Bringing them together with veterans, caregivers, advocates, and community members is an important part of the AccessBillings forum.

The forum is free and open to the public. It’ll be held in the Yellowstone Room at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center, 1223 Mullowney Lane.

Supporting veterans can mean listening when they share their experiences, learning where barriers exist, and helping create a Billings where every person can fully take part in the community. More information about the free Billings Disability Awareness Forum for veterans is available through AccessBillings.
