I need to start this story with a confession: baby goat yoga sounds like one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard of, and although it makes me squeal inside, well, have I got a story for you.

You see, my goat story goes way back to childhood when I learned the hard way that being dramatic doesn't always (mostly ever) pay off. One day, little me was outside minding my own business with adorable pigtails tied up in ribbons when a goat apparently decided one of those ribbons looked delicious. Before I could react, that goat had my entire pigtail, ribbon and all, sucked straight into its mouth and chomped off a huge chunk of my hair.

And where were my parents during this memorable life event, you ask? Inside the house. Ignoring my cries for help because I was knee deep in my “girl who cried wolf” era, and they assumed I was just being dramatic.

For once in my life, I absolutely was not. I wasn't hurt or anything, and I ended up with a great story to tell kids at school when they wanted to know why one side of my hair was lopsided.

So while this event sounds unbelievably adorable, there’s still a small part of me that sees a goat and immediately thinks, “Man, do I want to, but I kind of like my hair being symmetrical.” Which, I know, is an irrational concern to have, because not once, not ever, have I heard of a goat yoga participant who didn’t leave with their hair completely intact! Plus, the goats at these events aren't like the mischievous neighborhood goats I grew up with. These are friendly, well-socialized, and supervised by experienced handlers, so you can relax and just enjoy the fun.

Laurel Is Hosting Baby Goat Yoga for a Great Cause

Despite my lingering childhood distrust of goats, I have to admit this event sounds incredibly fun, and I sure hope you can make it.

Heeling Hearts Animal Rescue is teaming up with Pet Palace in Laurel for a Baby Goat Yoga fundraiser on June 13th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at Pet Palace, located at 219 South Washington Avenue, next to Walmart in Laurel.

Even if yoga isn’t your thing, this sounds like one of those events where you show up “just for a few minutes” and somehow stay for three hours taking photos of tiny goats.

Yes, There Will Be Highland Cows Too

As if baby goats weren’t enough cuteness for one event, organizers are also bringing Highland cows into the mix. And there it is. The part of the event that has basically cemented my attendance. My son and I are obsessed with highland cows in all their adorableness, and the best part is that there will be photo opportunities with them. How can you say no to that?

The event will also include a barbecue, baked goods, raffle prizes, pup cups, adoptable animals, and other family-friendly activities throughout the day.

The Goat Yoga Sessions Will Help Local Rescue Animals

The yoga portion of the event will be led by Lindsay Johnson of Transformation Spa and Wellness, with goats provided by A Bar Diamond Fainters.

All proceeds from the $44 yoga sessions will benefit Heeling Hearts, a nonprofit animal rescue based in Laurel.

Organizers say adoptable dogs will also be at the event, which feels slightly dangerous for people like me who cannot make rational decisions around rescue animals.

You go in for goat yoga and cute highland cows, and suddenly you’re driving home with a new best friend named Pickles. It's happened to me three times, my friend. And I have zero regrets.
