Clue #3: A Painful Encounter with Nature: Helena's valley is named after this alliterative plant; William Clark was injured by many of its barbs when he explored there.
This one’s a bit tricky, but if you’re a Montanan through and through, you might’ve recognized it. The answer is prickly pear! This spiny plant got its name from the sharp barbs that made life a little more painful for William Clark during his exploration of the area.
