With Christmas fast approaching, many puppies will be purchased as gifts. If you're considering a new pet for a holiday present, please think about adoption before you buy. There are so many awesome dogs looking for homes at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter, including our featured Wet Nose Wednesday pet, Richie.

Meet Richie.

Richie is a medium-sized, five-year-old who weighs around 40 pounds. He arrived at the shelter as a stray and was not microchipped. (Note: this service is just $20 at YVAS, no appointment is necessary.) The shelter is calling Richie a Border Collie mix, and he's ready to adopt now.

He's playful, intelligent and gentle.

This dog is a gem. He knows how to sit on command (our bag of treats was an encouragement) and Lindsey Dillon from Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter said he behaves well on a leash and in the car. He'll likely get along great with other dogs and respectful children.
