Storm Broke your Tree? How Billings Will Help Clean up the Mess
The massive storm on Tuesday, August 6th really ruined some property owners' day. The painstaking cleanup work is underway, and the City of Billings is helping with some guidance for the disposal of tree limbs, branches and leaves.
First, let's get one thing clear...
Only Organic Tree Material Will Be Accepted! No Other Garbage!!
The city's intent with the material is to chip it and compost it. Because of this, no other stuff will be accepted. Don't throw in trashed lawn furniture, broken flower pots, plastic toys and other waste. The city workers may just turn you away.
I know, I'll just pile it all in the alley for the city to pick up for free.
Bzzt, Wrong!
That is a bad assumption. Billings City will not pick up any tree debris in alleys, period. Stack it up at the curb? City will pick it up, but not for free. Have to call to arrange that.
The Green Bin
Sure, you can fill your Billings green bin...with leaves and small tree debris. No heavy wood. And the lid must be closed completely so the City can collect without spilling and making another mess. Overfill that bin and City employees may just pass it by.
Drop-off Sites for Tree Debris
Have the means to transport the fallen tree stuff? Want it off your property as soon as possible? Billings will help there with drop-off sites where you can deliver the limbs and branches until August 24th. And there is no charge for this service. Here are the locations:
W Wicks Ln & High Sierra Blvd W
Clevenger Park at 840 Bench Blvd
Cottonwood Park at Colton Blvd & 54th St W (Access on 54th)
Lampman Park at S of Monad Rd on S 30th St W side of the park
Wilson Park - Field of Dreams at Riverside Rd and Hannon Rd
Amend Park, across from Newman Elementary, that you can access on S Billings Blvd at Stone St
122 N 12th Street
Then There's the Landfill
The Billings Regional Landfill is located at 5240 Jellison Road and they will accept the tree remnants without any charge for the next couple weeks until August 24th. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Landfill will also be open on Sunday August 11th at same hours specifically for tree material disposal.
Landscaping cleanup after a large storm is a major project, no doubt. And while the work is still all on you, there is a destination for all the product of that work. Billings will have compost for a naturally beautiful municipality, and your property will return to order.
