Those Eyes. Billings’ Featured Adoptable Dog ‘Kirby’ is Shy and Sweet
Look at those stunning eyes.
Meet Kirby, our featured Wet Nose Wednesday Pet of the Week with Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, MT. Kirby is a six-year-old Weimaraner (believed to be a purebred) and he's ready to adopt today at YVAS.
Kirby was a shelter surrender.
It always saddens us to hear about dog owners who surrender their four-legged family members to the shelter, especially when they've cared for the pet for several years. It can happen for various reasons (a relocation that doesn't accept pets, the dog doesn't do well with a new baby, the dog chases chickens, the dog has aggression issues, etc). Kirby was surrendered to the shelter about a week ago, reportedly because he became too much for the owners to care for.
Last week's super-chill hounddog mix Huckleberry is still available.
About Weimaraners.
Weimaraners are somewhat similar in stature and appearance to the beloved Labrador Retriever, except Weimaraner's bodies are typically thinner and their coats are sleeker. Both breeds are considered hunting dogs. The American Kennel Club calls Weimaraners "a picture of streamlined grace and balance." They're usually great family pets too.
Weimaraners are excellent with kids and yearn to be full-fledged family members. Easy grooming, trainability, a loving nature, and a can-do-attitude make them excellent pets, as long as owners are committed to keeping them physically active and mentally engaged.
Kirby is a little on the shy side and he's quite active. We think he's a little thin; something easily remedied with plenty of treats and quality dog food.
