Critical Support Montana Coal Rally in Roundup on Friday

A listener in Roundup, Montana said it best- we've already lost one mine. We can't afford to lose another. Coming up Friday is a very critical rally for Montana coal and coal miner jobs in Roundup.

Roundup Mayor Sandra Jones joined us in our radio studios Tuesday morning to talk about why this rally is so important. She says the Signal Peak Coal Mine south of Roundup and North of Billings is in danger of closing, and potentially seeing layoffs at the end of the year.

Mayor Jones: There's three bills right now that Senator Daines is sponsoring in Washington, DC to hopefully keep the mine operating. Without one of these bills being passed, they're in great danger of laying off by the end of the year, and possibly shutting down operations next year, which would be devastating...

Leaders from Colstrip, Montana will also be on hand Friday to show support for the coal mine near Roundup and the high wage jobs that the mine provides. 

Mayor Jones: Roundup was established, incorporated in 1909, and it was actually built on coal and the railroad came because of the coal. So actually, between the coal and the railroad- the city exists today. And so, knowing that and understanding that, we understand that coal is also the ugly stepchild of mining, of all of the mining that there is- and there's a war against all of it- coal seems to get hit the hardest I believe.

By the way, I got that Montana coal t-shirt during the Montana Chamber of Commerce Governor's Cup in Columbia Falls this summer. I've worn that Montana coal shirt in Butte. I've worn it in Billings. I wore it last Saturday night at the Fusion Fights in Great Falls. I shared it on social media. Everybody asks me- where did you get that shirt? They all want one.
