Team Montana, Tommy Mellott & Junior Bergen, Cross Paths in NFL
Team Montana. Tommy Mellott and Junior Bergen met up on opposing sides of the football field- but this time in the NFL. You gotta check out the great photo shared by Brandon Sullivan (below).
One played for the Montana State Bobcats and one played for the Montana Grizzlies. Both played in the FCS football national championship. And now, one plays for the Las Vegas Raiders and one plays for the San Francisco 49ers. Butte, Montana's own Tommy Mellott is with the Raiders, while Billings, Montana's own Junior Bergen is with the 49ers.
Not only did they run into each other after the game for a photo with some other Montana football greats, they literally ran into each other on the field.
As MontanaSports.com reports, it sounds like Bergen had a nice kickoff return, and Mellott swung in for the tackle:
With just over 14 minutes remaining in their NFL preseason matchup, the San Francisco 49ers' Bergen returned a kickoff 25 yards before he was tackled by the Las Vegas Raiders' Mellott, who made a solo stop at the 29 yard line.
MontanaSports.com noted that Mellott also "stood out when he returned the opening kickoff of the second half 42 yards," while Bergen "continued to show reliability as an NFL return man."
Both Mellott and Bergen are fighting to make the final cut on their respective rosters before the regular season begins.
