Jimmy Kimmel Convinces People Kid Rock Won a Senate Seat, and It’s Hilarious! [Watch]
Jimmy Kimmel 's cameras took to the streets on the occasion of the 2018 midterm elections for another episode of his recurring interactive sketch, "Lie Witness News," and got random people on the street to respond to the news that Kid Rock had won a special Senate election in Michigan.
That isn't true, but a surprising number of people who spoke on camera didn't let that stop them. The whole premise of the sketch is that Kimmel makes up something outrageous and asks people to respond to it as genuine news, thereby revealing how little some Americans know about current events. When Kimmel's people claimed that Kid Rock had been elected to the Senate and showed footage of some of his in-concert rants as his supposed "victory speech," a surprising number of people went with it.
Asked if she agreed with Rock's plan to lower the age to buy scratch-off lottery tickets to 10, one woman responds, "There's no reason why a 10-year-old should be able to gamble." But incredibly, when she's told that it's so kids could try to win college tuition, she changed her mind, reasoning, "I'm sure if they're 10, their parents are helping them."

Click on the video above to see that and more hilarious reactions, which include one woman wondering, "Why would I wanna smell your fingers?," while a succession of hapless citizens — most of whom presumably have the right to vote — soberly address questions about legalizing crystal meth for medicinal purposes and address Kid Rock directly by a series of hilarious "real names" (Note: Kid Rock's real name is Robert James Ritchie, not Senator Trigger Blumpkin).
Kid Rock himself had quite a few voters fooled when he announced that he would run for Senate in his home state of Michigan in 2017. He hinted over and over in public that he was serious before finally admitting that it was all a joke in an interview with Howard Stern.
