I always thought it was just a matter for time before Sports Authority would close its doors. And now, it was announced that they will do just that.

Just look at who they have had to compete with. First and foremost is that Goliath of a building that Scheels put up 2 years ago complete with their very own Ferris wheel.

Cabelas has the power of national name recognition and also put up a very nice store here.

I'm sure Mitchell Golf hurt Sports Authoritys sales somewhat. And there was also competition from Big Bear, Universal Athletics, and also the short-lived Sportsman's Warehouse, which also closed up shop a few years back.

Not to mention all of the sporting goods that you can get delivered right to your front door via the internet.

I know that it was Gart's when it opened. But, what businesses were in that spot before. Was it a grocery store?
