I've heard from a lot of our fellow veterans here in Montana and elsewhere across the country over the past few days. We're pissed off. We're disgusted. I'm with you. The last week, especially, pissed me off too.
I got a message from someone I greatly respect who has been a huge supporter of our troops here in Montana. He wanted to hear my thoughts on the news developing in Afghanistan. If you're an Afghan veteran, we want to hear yours as well.
Helena veteran John Quintrell was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He'll be signing copies of his book in Billings on Wednesday (7/7) at Adaptive Performance Center, 1420 Broadwater Ave.
Those who answered the call to serve obviously felt a calling to serve our country. But I also think those same veterans want to make sure that those patriotic values are instilled in the next generation.
As luck would have it, I was able to catch up with him while he stopped in Jackson Hole, Wyoming- just before he ventured into Yellowstone National Park. Earlier that same week he climbed Devil's Tower- even though he has never rock climbed before.
I was able to tag along with Montana's Congressman Matt Rosendale (R-MT) for a great visit to Horses Spirits Healing just north of Billings. Horses Spirits Healing is a great organization serving veterans, first responders, and their families with therapeutic programs featuring horses.
Our very own US Navy submarine representing the state of Montana is still awaiting a commissioning date, but was officially launched earlier this month. Later this week the captain of the boat himself will join Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT) for an update from the Montana state capitol.
