The Velvet Underground’s ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ Album Gets 45th Anniversary Six-Disc Box Set Reissue
It’s a good year for anniversary reissues. The latest to surface this year will be the Velvet Underground‘s 1967 debut disc, ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico,’ which is slated for an Oct. 1 street date.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the classic release, and the Quietus reports that Universal Music aren’t skimping on the bonus materials. In total, there will be six discs to make it worth your while that are associated with the reissue, as it’s being offered as a box set.
In the box set are the original album in both mono and stereo, the Scepter Studios acetate version of the release, Nico’s debut album, ‘Chelsea Girl,’ plus studio recordings of rehearsals from the Factory, and a legendary concert from Columbus, Ohio’s Valleydale Ballroom.
The album has been an inspiration for many artists, and Beck chose it as his inaugural disc when launching his ‘Record Club‘ project, attempting to recreate the disc in a 24-hour period with the help of Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and Thorunn Magnusdottir.
