The security lines. No place to put your carry-on luggage. Bathrooms the size of a cereal box. Crying babies and body odor. MOST of those things won't be an issue when you avoid the airport altogether and make the drive part of the experience.

When it comes to road trips, I think there are two types of travelers. The type who want to get there in the fastest time possible so they can brag about "the good time they made." Bathroom breaks are timed when you have this type of traveler leading your journey.

Then there's the type who stop at every exit when there's a billboard touting the "World's largest" something or other. I fall into that second type.

Save many hours of travel time flying if you want, but you'll miss a lot. Here are some attractions that will even make a drive across Kansas more interesting:
