It's one of the ultimate rock 'n' roll ironies:  the only guy in ZZ Top without a beard is named Frank Beard.  At least, it was, until now.  According to a new article in the Austin Chronicle, Beard has finally grown one.

After years of rockin' a bitchin' mustache, the legendary drummer is finally following in the footsteps of Dusty Hill and Billy Gibbons.  Admittedly, Beard has a long way to go if he wants to catch up with his famously bearded band mates.  In fact, ZZ Top's manager Pablo Gamboa doesn't think Beard's beard even deserves to be called one.  Instead, the band and crew are referring to his newly grown facial hair as "the ZZ Goatee".

Both Hill and Gibbons have been growing their beards since the late 70's.  On multiple occasions, they have turned down lucrative offers to shave.  Along with their signature southern blues rock sound, their beards have become one of the most iconic calling cards of the band, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
