Brian May Undergoes Knee Transplant Surgery
May let fans in on his medical woes via a series of posts on his website, including a July 27 admission that his “knee is deteriorating in spite of intensive physical therapy. I’m heading for the knee replacement op.” He checked in again on Aug. 5, pausing during a trip to Mount Teide in the Canary Islands to post a snapshot of the knee and say, “Thought this might make you smile, folks. I dedicated my old knee to Mount Teide. It has done good service. I need a new one, and my lovely surgeon is going to oblige, tomorrow morning. So here’s a last look.”
After checking in again from his hospital bed, May gave his readers the thumbs up the following day, posting, “I’m THROUGH!!! With a shiny new knee. This no walk in the park (!) but for 1st time in months I feel optimistic and free of that OLD pain. Thanks so much for the great messages – it means a lot.”
May has a new album to go with his new knee: ‘Acoustic by Candlelight,’ a live recording of performances with Broadway actor Kerry Ellis, is out now.
