Parks in Billings have been in the news quite a bit lately, with the Billings Gazette reporting that the city may be forced to close the public swimming pools and make other cuts to the Park and Rec portion of the budget. Apparently they're a little short on cash, to the tune of $3 million. Ouch. I'm not sure how that situation is going to pan out, but the city says they may have to shut Rose Park and South Park pools down for the season starting July 1 if they can't balance out budget cuts or find a secret stash of cash by June 30.

Huntley does things a little differently when it comes to funding for Barkemeyer Park. If you're not from Huntley you probably didn't know the name of the small town's large park, but you've no doubt seen it. It basically flanks a large portion of main street and is the site of Huntley Homesteader Days. Barkemeyer Park maintenance and beautification are paid for by public fundraising, and their annual fundraiser auction is coming up this Saturday, June 20 at noon. Details from the Facebook event page say,

If you love the park, if you love a good old-fashioned auction, or if you just love a bargain, we hope to see you at the auction.

Auction items include:

  • Antiques

  • Tools
  • Furniture
