Like a high school football team, seasons of ‘Saturday Night Live‘ always feel somewhat bittersweet given the notion that sooner or later the best players will have have to throw in the towel and move on.  All summer long we’ve been worried that ‘SNL’ would lose a third heavyweight alongside Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig, but has Jason Sudeikis finally made up his mind about leaving?  Will we hold onto his political impressions for one more season?

‘Saturday Night Live’ fans and Jason Sudeikis lovers alike, breathe easy.  The ‘Horrible Bosses’ funnyman will in fact be staying with the NBC sketch comedy series for another season, according to Entertainment Weekly‘s fall preview issue.  Sudeikis had previously kept mostly silent on the matter, fueling speculation that the actor would depart along with Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, but the ax seems to have been stayed for the moment.

Many of Sudeikis’ comments over the last few months certainly pointed toward the possibility of leaving, telling the Los Angeles Times that “I’d like the opportunity to use creative muscles that … haven’t been asked of me for the first nine years that I’ve worked there.”  Sudeikis also spoke to Men’s Journal in July, saying:

It’s an amazing job and a horrible job.  You really do serve the show. It’s just like playing in a community college. Everybody knows they’re not going to be there forever. Even the coach wants to go to a D-I school.

Likely some of the factors that facilitated Sudeikis’ return are his political impressions of both Joe Biden and Mitt Romney, two personas sure to see a lot of mileage in the coming election season.  Sudeikis will also have an easier schedule in the show’s 38th season, as ‘SNL’ welcomes three new Chicago Second City veterans, Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong.

What say you?  Are you happy to have Jason Sudeikis back for at least one more season?  Who do you think will be the next to depart ‘Saturday Night Live?’  Tell us if you’ll watch the new season in the comments below!
