Jimmy Page Considering Next Solo Project

Could we soon be hearing some new material from Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page? Based on some of his recent comments, it certainly seems that way.

“I’ve got lots of material I’ve written on acoustic guitar,” the guitarist revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone. “Lots and lots. And right now I need to get myself up to speed, and that won’t take too long. But I don’t know what musicians I’d play with. I do have material and a passion for it. I need to work towards it, and now I can without all the other side issues going on.”

It’s been quite a while since Page has released anything new to the public. His last studio release came in 1998, a collaboration with Robert Plant titled ‘Walking into Clarksdale.’ Before that he worked with Whitesnake front man David Coverdale for the record ‘Coverdale / Page’ in 1993. His lone solo album ‘Outrider’ came eight years after the demise of Zeppelin in 1988.

In what might be even more exciting news, Page also talked about his desire to pick up the guitar once again and play some live dates. “I intend to start getting to a point where I could play some gigs. But what those gigs are going to be, I don’t know yet. I have ideas of what I want to do, but they’re pretty complex. I would love to play live again. I love playing live. It’s wonderful.”

You could forgive Page for being preoccupied. Over the last decade, the guitarist has kept busy curating Led Zeppelin’s back catalog. His most recent effort has been spent remastering the band’s nine studio albums including the addition of unreleased live and studio tracks on what he calls, “companion discs.” The first batch of these releases, ‘Led Zeppelin I, ‘Led Zeppelin II,’ and ‘Led Zeppelin III’ are due out on June 3.
