Steven Tyler and Joe Perry appear to have a different view of things going on in the Aerosmith world. In a new interview, the guitarist downplayed Tyler's talk of the group calling it quits after 2017.

"A farewell tour is something we've talked about doing for years, let's say roughly in the last five years," Perry told Rolling Stone. "It's just something the band's talked about at various times. At this point, the five of us have never sat down and said, 'It's time to do it.' So 'considering' is an appropriate word for that statement. A farewell tour is definitely not confirmed."

Last week, Tyler spoke of the band's plans once he finishes touring behind his upcoming solo album. " We’re probably doing a farewell tour," he said. "Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I’m just excited about it."

Perry said they'll likely re-assess the situation after they tour South America this fall. "We're talking about some different options at this point," he continued. "Whether it's to do some shorter tours like the last couple we've done or go into the studio and knock a few songs out and see how that feels, I'm not sure yet. But right now we're really taking time off from the band and everybody's off doing their own thing."

During this bit of downtime from Aerosmith, Perry hasn't been sitting around the house doing nothing. He's been working on a mostly instrumental solo record of his own, with the first song, "I'll Do Happiness," surfacing yesterday (April 12). He's also booked a few dates as a part of Alice Cooper's side project, the Hollywood Vampires.
