Nikki Sixx’s ‘Heroin Diaries’ to Get Graphic Novel Adaptation

Nikki Sixx‘s Heroin Diaries memoir is making its way to comic shops later this year.

ABC News Radio reports it’s just one of several releases planned to commemorate Diaries‘ 10th anniversary, with plans also afoot to release a new edition of the book as well as its soundtrack. A stage musical has also been in the works for several years; according to ABC’s report, it’s currently on target to premiere in 2018.

The Heroin Diaries is getting the graphic novel treatment through Heavy Metal Magazine, the long-running sci-fi/fantasy magazine known for its dedication to distinctive art — and its rock ‘n’ roll ties, exemplified by the soundtrack to the 1981 Heavy Metal movie. As Sixx pointed out in a statement announcing the project, it has the potential to be a perfect fit.

The Heroin Diaries has always been deeply personal to me, so when the idea came up for a graphic novel based on the story, who better to partner with than the iconic Heavy Metal brand? I grew up reading their magazine as a kid,” said Sixx. “This is really a passion project and I’ve been intimately involved in every step along the way, from the storyline to the look and feel of the art. It is meant to be a treat for fans of The Heroin Diaries, old and new and I hope everyone will enjoy the graphic novel as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you.”

“I’ve been the biggest fan of Mötley Crüe since the release of Too Fast for Love and have nothing but the greatest respect for Nikki and his songwriting,” added Heavy Metal CEO Jeff Krelitz. “So for us to be able to collaborate with him on bringing this tragedy-to-triumph to a new audience in a powerful way is a dream come true.”

Details of The Heroin Diaries‘ graphic novel edition, including the creative team and a specific release date, have yet to be announced, but attendees at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, scheduled to take place today through July 23, can get an exclusive preview of the book.
