One would think that, by now, Robert Plant has fulfilled all of his childhood dreams. However, he will make another one come true next year when he takes the field for Wolverhampton Wanderers, the soccer team he has supported since he was a boy.

Sportsmole reports that Plant will suit up for the team, commonly known as "Wolves," at a testimonial match for defender Jody Craddock, who retired last year after a solid 20-year career, the last 10 of which were spent with Wolves. The rock legend, who serves as a vice president of the club, won the opportunity by bidding £900 at a dinner to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital, where Craddock's son is being treated for leukemia. The event raised more than £8,000.

A testimonial match is an exhibition - usually featuring former players and guest stars - with the proceeds going to the honoree to help with their retirement or to help open up that pub they've always dreamed of owning. They date back to the days before players were highly compensated and are as much of a tradition in English soccer as long balls that bypass the midfield and losing to Germany in important tournaments.

Founded in 1877, Wolves are one of the original members of the Football League and one of its most successful clubs in the 50s. But they have fallen on hard times lately and were relegated from both the Premiership and the Championship in consecutive seasons. They currently sit in second place in League One, the third tier of English football.
