‘The World’s End’ Featurette: On Working with Edgar Wright

You might have guessed from his previous work, but Edgar Wright is a perfectionist, and as Simon Pegg says in this new featurette about ‘The World’s End,’ “you can’t argue with perfection.”

Here we see Wright working on the film, and — as Pegg reveals — when Wright’s unsure of what he wants he starts playing with his facial hair. The cast all sing his praises, something the internet has been doing since ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (at least stateside, as we’re sure he picked up fans for his work on ‘Spaced.’)

Though this doesn’t offer too much in the way of new footage, it does suggest that — for a comedy — Wright’s movies are labor intensive shoots, which Nick Frost notes. But that visual sense is what separates Wright from many of his American peers like Judd Apatow or Paul Feig, who often find the jokes in the moment.

August is looking like a killer month for movies this year, and this is near the top of our list of must-see’s. ‘The World’s End’ will be in theaters on August 23. Here’s the film’s synopsis:

Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
