Watch Video From Motorhead’s Shortened Wacken Show

Video has surfaced of the show Motorhead had to cut short on Friday (July 2) because of Lemmy Kilmister‘s health problems. The professionally filmed video contains approximately 12 minutes of the 30-minute set the band played at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.

The video doesn’t reveal much. Earlier reports suggested that Lemmy looked pale and sounded pretty rough. But, as you can see from the above video, besides slightly slowed-down tempos, the songs don’t sound all that different. Lemmy addressed the audience at one point. “I was very sick,” he says, following the band’s performance of ‘Damage Case.’ “I’m getting better now. So I thought we’d come along and see if we could completely f—ing cripple ourselves playing for you f—ers.”

The video includes three of the six songs Motorhead played: ‘Damage Case,’  ’Metropolis’ and ‘Over the Top.’ The last song they played before leaving the stage — ‘The Chase Is Better Than the Catch’ — isn’t one of them. The band was supposed to play a full 75-minute set.

In June, news came out that Lemmy was fitted for a defibrilator to correct heart problems. Soon afterward, he suffered a hematoma. Motorhead then canceled all of their shows through November. The Wacken show was a one-off gig that marked Lemmy’s return.

The organizers of the festival released a statement yesterday that read in part, “Lemmy gave everything he’s got to play an amazing live show. He’s keeping well, but the temperatures and circumstances led to the point that continuing the show would have led to a loss of quality.”
