5K Patriot Run

Brandon Schmidt, the supervisor of the Mountview Cemetery, spends his days walking five miles through the burial grounds while doing the rounds. After a year, he has spent time reflecting on the 25,000 people on those grounds and resonates most with a specific section.

Schmidt said in a City of Billings release:

I always wanted to be able to do something for the veteran community and I wanted to get more of the public utilizing the cemetery. I wasn’t sure, it took me a while to figure it out, but I put those two together, and came up with the run.

After being in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, Schmidt is organizing the first-ever 5K Patriot Run at Mountview Cemetery.

The run is scheduled for Sunday, November 5th (the Sunday before Veteran's Day). Runners and walkers will take two laps around the cemetery before reaching the finish line.

The race begins at 1 PM, and packet pickup runs from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.

Money raised by the Patriot Run will go into a grant fund administered by the non-profit foundation, Partners for Parks.
