Caves Used as Place to Hide Ammunition
A couple of years ago I did a story on the Piasa Bird in Alton, Illinois, which is five minutes from where I grew up. It's hard to believe, but I grew up there and didn't know that the caves next to the Bird were used for hiding ammunition during World War II. There was a lot of history in Alton. It was also a major place for the underground railroad during the Civil War.
