Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses Stars Turn Up for Dimebag Darrell Tribute Concert
This year’s tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott was a who’s who of heavy metal Gods. Sebastian Bach, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, former Guns N’ Roses member Duff McKagan, and Tom Morello were just a few of the artists that showed up to honor the former Pantera guitarist, as well as the late Ronnie James Dio.
The charity started by Dio’s widowed wife was the primary beneficiary of the attention in Hollywood on Wednesday night (Dec. 14). Stand Up and Shout raises money for cancer research. Dio died of stomach cancer in May 2010. Rolling Stone reports that Dio songs like ‘Man on the Silver Mountain’ and ‘Cemetary Gates’ were prevalent. But other rockers chose songs by Van Halen, Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen.
“This is amazing,” System of a Down’s Serj Tankian enthused. “I’ve never seen so many rockers in one place.” The event was hosted by ‘That Metal Show’ host Eddie Trunk. Fan video of one of the night’s more poignant moments can be found below.
