Edgar Winter to Celebrate Brother Johnny’s Music on Upcoming Tour
The sudden passing of Johnny Winter stunned the rock world. Now, Edgar Winter has reworked the tour that Johnny was supposed to headline to honor to his departed brother.
The 'Rock N’ Blues Fest' tour, which features Edgar, Vanilla Fudge, Peter Rivera of Rare Earth and Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown, is now being billed as a tribute to Johnny, with all artists promising to work songs from Johnny's career into their set lists. As a special bonus, Rick Derringer, who was in Johnny Winter And in the '70s and later turned Winter’s ‘Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo’ into a mega-hit, will join the tour for the last two stops in Las Vegas and Snoqualmie, WA. The full list of dates can be found below.
In a press release, Winter stated, “My wife and I are shocked at the suddenness of Johnny's passing, especially since I was so looking forward with such joy and anticipation to seeing him again and playing together. Johnny has always been, is now, and will forever remain my greatest musical hero of all time. But more than all that, he's my brother - in family, in music, in life and beyond. I will do my best to carry on in honor of his memory and the Winter name.”
Johnny Winter was found dead in his hotel room in Zurich, Switzerland just two days after giving what has become his final performance at the Lovely Days Festival in Wiesen, Austria. He was 70 years old.
