Family, Food, and Fun – Airport Inn Closing In Miles City
As someone who grew up in Miles City, and spent most of my childhood around town, I have plenty of memories from the Airport Inn. Situated high above the city, on Airport Hill, the Airport Inn has been a "feels like home" place for me. However, their announcement at the beginning of the month hit hard. They're closing down, and have sold to a new owner... after 60 YEARS of operation.
Finger Steaks Are #1
We all have our hometown joints we favor. I know after living in Baker, Heisers Bar & Casino was the go-to for pizza... The Tavern was the sit-down joint... and if you wanted sports with a beer, try CB's.
For Miles City, the Airport Inn has been THE spot for family dinners (at least for MY family dinners, since the early '90s). I remember as a kid getting picked up from school by my Dad (he would randomly do this... usually when he just signed a paint job to show off his wad of cash) and we'd go see Martha & Peggy for some hot and quick lunch.
For him, it was the Finger Steaks and Fries. For me? Chicken Rips and Fries. (Yes, young Josh called them Chicken Rips). And I made sure to pass the celery over to Dad to eat... since celery isn't my jam.
Game Time
Once we finished up our food, or most of it at least, we'd run off into the game room and play one of the old... but still functional... games. My memory isn't that fantastic to remember the exact games, but I know some of you can fill in the blanks.
It's a shame I don't have photos of the memories there, but I can tell you this, those memories will last my lifetime. The '90s were great, as they were before any drama found its way into my life. And I miss it.
What's next?
According to the rumors on Facebook, it has been purchased and will be replaced with a different establishment. All good things come to an end, I suppose. Here's hoping they got the Pizza and Finger Steaks recipes from Peggy.
