Inflation Gone Wild? Breakfast for Two in Billings Over $30
Today, after a quick visit to a local body shop to take photos for their new website, one of our account executives and I stopped for a quick breakfast. However, at the end of the meal, we both had sticker shock.
For the purpose of not irking a local business, we are keeping their name out of this article. This is likely the same at other locations... however I wanted to share it to bring attention to it.
Great Service, with a Smile
Overall, our experience was positive. Quickly seated, provided with drinks in a quick fashion, and our orders were taken without a fuss. Our food arrived within 15 minutes and was smaller than I remember... but still tasty.
Sticker Shock
Once finished, we asked for the receipt and were greeted with the aforementioned sticker shock. Here's the breakdown of our receipt, again, for TWO.
- Breakfast Sandwich Meal with Gluten Free Bread and Hashbrowns
- $11.95 +.95 for Gluten Free Bread
- Biscuit and Gravy Meal with Eggs & Bacon
- $12.45
- Diet Pepsi
- $3.00!
- Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
- $7.00!!!
Grand Total, $35.30, before tip.
Now, this is blowing my mind. Admittedly, the last time I went out for breakfast at a place that wasn't a fast food joint has been a while... but the combination of small portions and extremely inflated pricing on drinks is wild to me. I for SURE think $7 for a "fresh squeezed" orange juice is beyond an accurate price. It takes 3 oranges per glass in order to have freshly squeezed juice... but I simply ordered Orange Juice. I can get a GALLON for $5. $7 for a glass? Shameful.
$3 for a soda pop? Fountain pop, no less, is also boggling to my mind. I can understand the price of the food, as those costs have grown dramatically, but getting gouged for drinks is beyond comprehension.
What are your thoughts?
Let us know what you think about this new, much more expensive, world we live in. I feel terrible for those making less than $15 an hour still, as you could work an entire HOUR and still not be able to eat breakfast out for that hour of work.
