I don’t know about you, but by this time of year in Montana, I’m done with winter. Sure, we'll still get snowstorms until June (and hail and rain - sometimes in the same day), but spring has a way of sneaking in and lifting everyone’s spirits here in Billings.

It’s not just about the warmer temps — it’s the vibe. Here are six solid reasons we all love springtime in the Magic City.

1. The Rims Wake Up

The moment the snow melts and those sandstone trails dry out, the Rims call us back. Whether you're walking the dog, biking with the kids, or just parking and clearing your head, there’s nothing quite like those first spring days on the Rims with the city below and wildflowers at your feet.

2. Patio Season = Happiness

There’s something sacred about that first cold one on the patio at Montana Brewing Company. Or brunch outside on the rooftop patio at the 406 Kitchen and Taproom. We wait months for this — and man, does it feel good.

3. The Yellowstone Starts Buzzin’

As of today (4/23), we're in the sweetspot for hitting the Yellowstone River before spring runoff makes everything murky, muddy, and floody. My fishing pole is now back in my car, and my 2025 Montana Fishing licence is in my wallet.

4. Everything turns green.

Billings is depressingly brown in the winter, so it's always a pleasure to watch the canopy of green envelope our city over the next couple of weeks.

5. Local events are back.

Billings' event calendar gets pretty sparse in the winter months, but from now till the first of October, our entertainment options explode. Nobody likes to have fun when it involves icy roads and darkness at 4:30 PM.

6. It's shorts and hoodie season!

For those hard-core Montanans, every day of the year is shorts and hoodie season, but for most of us, this time of year is when we'll slap shorts on the bottom and our favorite Cat or Griz hoodie on top.
